I got to interview author David Hurlihy at the Bike Expo NY. David was at the event to talk at some of the panels and to promote his new book called “Lost Cyclist: The Epic Tale of an American Adventurer and His Mysterious Disappearance.” which chronicles the story of Frank Lenz, a 24-year-old wheelman(Cyclist) who departed New York in 1892 to ride his bike around the globe who ultimately winds up missing.

I got to kick it with Seth of Rosko Cycle Company, he was the only vendor at the New Amsterdam Bike Show that makes BMX frames as well as other road bike frames. In this clip I have the Pro Main action from the Redline Cup at CNJBMX, Howell NJ. Philly D took home $400 for first place, that’s a pretty decent chunk of change for a regional race. My editing at the end is a little crazy but that’s what happens when your the A and B camera team lol!

Seems like every cycling discipline wants to get down like BMXer, from MTB to MX to fixies and now even the roadies are getting into the act! In this clip here the California based eyewear brand Spy built made this commercial to be a playful expression of its youthful, point of view by bringing an action sports approach to road cycling because there is a “Coolness” factor missing from the roadie scene lol! So the question is if all these disciplines are doing BMXish things on their bikes..will the BMX community embrace them and use them as a means to get more people into the sport of BMX which is the core of it all?

The idea was born of this: Matthew Busche—Spy athlete and 2011 U.S. National Road Race Champion—trains a lot. To be the best requires tremendous focus and hard work—which equates to pain. To get through it, Busche says his mind drifts in and out of daydreams. Told through the prism of Busche’s daydream, viewers journey with him as he imagines himself hitting the alluring trails of California’s coastal mountain ranges and doing some crazy stuff on a bike strictly built for pavement. SPY asked its mountain bike freestyle rider Mike Montgomery (Teams Specialized and Monster Energy) to stunt double for Busche’s wildest fantasies of doing things on his road bike that no one else has done before. That is, until Montgomery did them for him. This spot was originally built to air mid-May in 2012 on NBC during the Tour of California (TOC) cycling race. Going into the event, Busche was set to play an important role in the TOC for Team Radio Shack-Nissan-Trek. I’m gotta say it again, Redbull knows how to put on the best Action Sports events ever!!! This video has some really insane Fixed gear action, the sport is really blowing up in big way, check out the clip!

After a highly successful inaugural year in 2011, Red Bull hosted the second Ride + Style at San Francisco’s Justin Plaza. In a collision of fixed gear biking and urban art, Ride + Style features fixed gear riders facing off in both track and freestyle competitions, with the obstacles designed and decorated by local San Francisco artists.

This Saturday another Bike event is going down in Brooklyn called the NYC Bike Jumble! It’s a cool bike flea market/bike show in Washington Park Brooklyn. The park will be filled with vendors selling used bikes, new and used bike accessories. But the big news is my boy Danny Parks of Baby Bean Productions is having a King Of New York Mini Jam at the event. their bringing the ramps for a street coarse and there will also be a flatland jam too so all you BMX Shredders come through and enjoy a fun day cycling Dopeness!!

2012 Redline Cup Qualifier, Howell NJ (517 Photos)

The weather was great for this past weekends Redline Cup Qualifier at Howell NJ! The track looked amazing but unfortunately I couldn’t ride because i sprained my wrist at the trails the day b4. I was a pretty good turnout being that it was Mothers day, we had about 63 motos on Sunday. The racing action was awesome but it seemed like there were more crashes than normal. I took a lotta pictures and even tried out some B&W shots to see how they looked. I put both sets of pictures in this post.
